FIFA president Infantino dismisses blue card existence, but sin bin still in consideration

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has dismissed rumours of introducing blue card in football, stating it is a non-existent topic for FIFA.

Infantino clarified in an interview with SKY Sports UK, “Blue cards? This is a topic that is non-existent for us.

“If you want a title, it is: red card to the blue card. No chance, no way.”

While the blue card plans are set to be abandoned, the concept of a sin bin remains under consideration.

The sin bin would allegedly, be utilized for players guilty of dissent and ‘anti-football’ actions.

Trials for the sin bin have been conducted, and its implementation is expected at semi-professional levels, talkSPORT reveals.

However, specifics regarding what actions constitute ‘anti-football’ are yet to be defined.

One proposal suggests including cynical fouls, similar to Giorgio Chiellini’s foul on Bukayo Saka in the Euro 2020 final.

FIFA referee chief Pierluigi Collin had cited it as a clear example of stopping play in a cynical manner.

While deliberations are still on across football governing bodies, there has been no clear instance of what should exactly constitute a sin bin.
