Special Spesh, the hypeman to music star, Davido, has called out the Grammy organisers after the singer and other Nigerian nominees missed out winning awards.
Davido and other Nigerian artistes like Burna Boy and Ayra Starr were snubbed at the 66th Grammys on Sunday, with Tyla, the only non-Nigerian nominee in the maiden Best African Music Performance category, picking up the award.
Expressing his displeasure, Spesh accused the Grammy organisers of trying to control African music, vowing that African won’t give them the power to downplay Afrobeats or any other African genre.
He also shaded Tyla by making reference to her “Make me squ*rt” lyrics in the Grammy winning song, ‘Water’.
“Gbedu about squ*rting don win,” the hypeman captioned.
Ranting on his Instagram page, Spesh wrote: “We won’t give you the power to dvmb Afrobeats down or Afrofusion or anything African!
“That’s (white) America’s problem! When things start to take over and get massive they always want a part then try to have a say then try to control.”
